Exxon Refinery USA Bulk Station Modification
Project
This project won a national ABC Eagle Award in
1999, as well as an ABC Pelican Chapter Excellence in Construction
Award.
In 1998 Exxon Refinery USA approved a substantial modification to
their Baton Rouge, Louisiana refining complex. This revamp included
changes of four of their two-hundred-thousand-volt (230kv) to
thirteen-thousand- eight-hundred-volt (13.8kv) bulk electrical
distribution stations. The modification altered the refinery scheme
from a single-breaker-single-bus to a double-breaker-double-bus
scheme.
During
that same year, the design and engineering firm, Power Systems
Development, Inc. (PSD), awarded ISC a lump sum contract of $1.2 Million for any labor,
supervision, equipment and materials not furnished by other involved
parties.
ISC's scope of work included 100% of the electrical modifications
and pre-testing. Over the fifteen-month duration of the project, ISC
maintained a workforce of thirteen associates. Over 35,700 man hours
were spent by ISC to complete the electrical portion of this
project, which ended in March of 1999.
As
an integral part of the Project Construction Team, ISC's
participation in the decision-making process was not limited to the
electrical aspects of the construction. The goal of the project team
was to complete a safe and successful project without interruption
to the operating facility power during these modifications.
The Exxon Refinery Revamp Project was divided into four major
work areas: Electrical Bulk Stations #1; Electrical Bulk Station #2;
Electrical Bulk Station #3; Electrical Bulk Station #4.
