Completed in 2014

Air Products is one of the world’s largest hydrogen and helium suppliers, operating in over 50 countries. A major client of Air Products, GE Healthcare, owns and operates a plant in Florence, South Carolina, which designs, builds and tests Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) magnets.

The use of helium is essential to MRI production, and roughly 5.5 million liters of helium are used each year at GE’s South Carolina plant. In May of 2013, Air Products was selected as the General Contractor for the new 5,000 square foot helium liquefaction facility capable of capturing helium gas and compressing it into a reusable liquid state.

Air Products awarded ISC with a contract to perform the electrical and instrumentation portion of the GE Healthcare Helium Liquefaction Project. Roughly 75% of the work was accomplished at an elevation above six feet and safety harnesses were required at all times. ISC was able to complete the job two weeks ahead of schedule and under budget without a single OSHA recordable safety incident or first aid case.
