ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The Baton Rouge Refinery is the second largest ExxonMobil Refinery in the United States and one of the largest and most integrated refining and petrochemical hubs in the world. Spanning over 2,100 acres in the heart of Baton Rouge, the Refinery is a vital component not only to Louisiana, but also to the nation’s economy. In 2008, a time of economic recession, ExxonMobil expanded their Baton Rouge facility with the addition of a new NonRoad Diesel Unit, which boosted diesel production, as well as economic opportunities in the local community.
Having more than 20 years of experience in the ExxonMobil Refinery, ISC was well prepared for the daunting underground scope of this project. Further, with Jacobs Field Services serving as the Engineering and Construction Management firm, ISC was confident this collaborative project team was up to the challenge of completing such a monumental undertaking.
Today there is little evidence of the thousands of man-hours of duct-bank work other than stub-ups here and there, many half-hidden by structural steel and process systems. If you look closely you can see the small tags that identify each conduit’s purpose and route, although they give no clue as to the planning, skill, effort and precision required to install them.
