ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Marathon Oil Corporation is one of the largest and most ambitious energy companies operating across the globe. In October 2005, a construction boom was underway in the Gulf South, and Marathon Oil Corporation announced plans to expand their refinery located in Garyville, Louisiana by 180,000 barrels per day. The Garyville Major Expansion (GME) Project constructed ten new units from concept to production in less than 48 months. In March 2007, a 400-acre rural site began its transformation from sugarcane field to becoming one of the most efficient refining facilities in the United States.
To attempt such an extraordinary project, Marathon needed contractors that would be able to exceed expectations, thrive in a fast-paced environment, have the capability of becoming a cohesive unit, make tough decisions, work productively, and most importantly, work safely. With over 16 years of working with Marathon, on both projects and maintenance, ISC readily accepted Marathon’s challenges.
ISC was selected as the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) contractor for over 60% of the GME Project. ISC was also responsible for the power and communication backbone for the entire GME expansion. Working with Marathon and Fluor, the general management contractor, ISC was not only able to accomplish this incredible scope, but also succeed in ways that were incomprehensible at the time the contract was written.
