Completed in 2014

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s Garyville refinery is one of the largest refineries in the United States. In 2013, ISC was awarded the electrical and instrumentation portion of MPC’s largest shutdown at the Garyville, Louisiana facility. The Major Crude and Platformer Turnaround happened to occur in year ten of the ten-year schedule cycle, creating the largest amount of engineering packages ever performed in a shutdown at this facility.

The contract consisted of installation, demolition, preventive maintenance, and conducting startup for electrical and instrument raceway, power and control cable, electrical and instrument equipment, instrument tubing, air pipe, and temporary power.  ISC also provided detailed planning, cost control, and material procurement. Finally, ISC was asked to keep the plant in operation through the use of temporary generators and distribution panels.  Therefore, although it was in “shutdown mode”, it was taken offline for short periods of time only.

Despite a very aggressive turnaround schedule, lost time due to weather, and material delivery setbacks, ISC was able to complete all of their contracted project scope on schedule and within budget with ZERO recordable OSHA incidents.

Project Facts

  • 55,500 Man-Hours
  • 9 Month Duration
  • ZERO OSHA Recordables
  • National Project of the Year Award (Eagle Award) by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)

I would like to compliment ISC for their commitment to maintaining a very aggressive turnaround schedule. Their focus and dedication allowed them to execute their scope without compromising safety or the environment.
