Completed in 2014

Rubicon, LLC, is located in Geismar, Louisiana, on an 81-acre production site just south of the State’s capital of Baton Rouge. The plant produces polymeric and high-grade pure Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI). MDI-based polyurethanes are used in a wide variety of markets, including adhesives, automotive-related items, construction, electronics, and sporting equipment.

In July of 2012, ISC was awarded the MDI-1 Re-Instrumentation and DCS Upgrade Project by Rubicon, LLC, to convert the instrumentation and control system in the MDI-1 Unit to a new state-of-the-art Foxboro Invensys System. As ISC had worked at the Rubicon plant site for the past 19 years, the company’s level of experience prepared it to meet the challenges of such a complex project.

In total, ISC amassed approximately 30 man-years of hard work with no recordable and no lost time injuries, all while demonstrating exemplary quality installations. These performance measures, along with completing the project early by 20 days, and under budget, gave Rubicon the value which they have come to expect from ISC.

Project Facts

  • 57,220 Man-Hours
  • 14 month duration – 20 days ahead of schedule
  • ZERO Recordables or Lost time
  • National Project of the Year Award (Merit Award) by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)

The project was planned and executed with minimal revisions and the shutdown execution to convert to a distributed control production unit was excellent. Even with changing duration and start times on the actual shutdown, ISC adapted and changed to meet the demands!
