Total Petrochemicals operates a styrene plant in Carville, Louisiana and is one of the largest styrene facilities of this design in the world. Total also operates a polystyrene plant in Carville and is also one of the largest single site polystyrene facilities in the world.

In an effort to minimize energy consumption and retain jobs in a difficult economy, Total Petrochemicals began a two year endeavor to implement the latest industry technology which brought about the Multi-Effect Distillation Project (MED). In October 2010, ISC was awarded a contract for installation of all electrical and instrumentation systems of the project at Total ‘s CosMar Styrene Monomer Plant in Carville, Louisiana.

ISC was invited to play a pivotal role in the design and constructability review of this project. ISC worked with Total representatives, Shaw Engineering and several other key contractors to perform the entire scope of the project. In an effort to minimize cost and maximize functionality, ISC assisted with the design of all cable tray routing to the new AS-281 vessel and surrounding structure, and suggested an alternative route which cut down on thousands in construction costs.

ISC developed methods to overcome countless problems and completed the entire project without a single safety incident and with an unblemished quality record.
