About the Project
ISC was contracted for a $10 million project by Rubicon, L.L.C. of Geismar, Louisiana to update the electrical supply to the Rubicon facility. The 15Kv upgrade consisted of multiple disciplines and scopes of work to complete this end-to-end (Engineer/Design/Construct) project. These scopes of work included installation of cable tray and grounding, offsite Entergy switches & poles, and all electrical needs for the new Rubicon Electrical Distribution Center (REDC) building. A major portion of the work done, comprising 65% of the total contract value, was routing eight (8) new incoming power feeders from the Entergy substation to the new REDC building over a mile away and ten (10) new distribution feeders out to nine (9) individual unit power distribution centers. Pulling-specific forklifts were required at over 40 different locations throughout the duration of the cable pulling phase of the project. These were utilized to anchor additional pulling equipment that could not be attached to steel.
ISC’s initial efforts included creating a cohesive engineering and design team which worked closely with site management to design cost-effective field constructability and efficient installation strategies. ISC Engineering performed onsite scanning and 3D modeling services to complete the engineering of over 9,000 feet of cable tray. ISC Engineering also designed the new cable tray system routing through the existing facility units in a manner that did not require any power outages except for the unit cutovers, allowing field personnel to maximize production due to up-front planning of field execution.
