About the Project
In 2019, ExxonMobil began construction on a $2 billion expansion to their petrochemical manufacturing complex in Baytown, Texas. The Baytown Chemical Expansion Project (BCEP) added two new units that would tie-in to the existing facility – a Linear Alpha Olefins unit and a Performance Polymers unit. Performance Contractors and Tecnimont partnered to design and construct these new units, and Performance Contractors awarded ISC Constructors a hybrid time and materials contract for the electrical and instrumentation scope of work.
FRONT-END ENGINEERING, CONSTRUCTABILITY, AND DESIGN SUPPORT
Early engagement between the construction and engineering teams allowed for design changes in the pre-construction phase that would provide substantial cost and schedule savings once work started in the field.
TEMPORARY POWER DESIGN AND ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION OF SITE FACILITIES
Parking lot and roadway lighting, office and laydown yard facilities, and temporary construction power in the unit to support a peak of 3,500 staff and craft personnel.
“SAFELY PARK” THE PROJECT DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Complete underground electrical work to get the site in a condition to “park” the project for over one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and perform equipment preservation and maintenance work during the pause.
3D MODELING OF FIELD-ROUTED RACEWAYS AND WIRE
ISC engineers modeled 100k feet of cable/channel tray and 1.1 million feet of wire that was not previously designed and modeled by the engineering firm.
