Technical Services

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP)

As defined by the Construction Industry Institute, AWP is a planned, executable process that encompasses the work on an EPC project, beginning with the initial planning and continuing through detailed design and construction execution.

ISC is leading the construction industry on understanding, implementing, and adapting traditional electrical and instrumentation work packages. Our AWP managers, coordinators, and work face planners are trained and knowledgeable on industry AWP processes and assist customers on AWP implementation by mobilizing at early stages of a project.

Constructability

By suggesting alternative installation methods and material selection, ISC’s qualified constructability experts can identify cost savings for our customers in the design phase of a project. We are routinely requested to provide these services on major industrial expansions as a cost-savings measure.

Our constructability is focused in the following divisions:

  • Temporary Power
  • Underground & Aboveground Raceway Design
  • Power Distribution
  • Instrumentation & Control

Process Hazard Analysis

Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies are vital to understanding and managing hazards at the job site. Effective PHAs enable informed decisions for improving process safety – this preserves lives, assets, and the environment. We provide experienced leadership, considered preparation, and attention to detail, fulfilling the requirements of an effective PHA and allowing you to focus on your operating facility.

Our dedicated service extends to PHAs big and small, across the United States including:

  • Initial PHA
  • Revalidation PHA
  • Clean-Sheet PHA
  • Management of Change (MOC) PHA/Request for Change (RFC) PHA
  • Capital Project PHA (small, large, greenfield)
  • Front-End Loading (FEL) PHA
  • Detailed Design PHA
  • Pre Startup Safety Review (PSSR) PHA

Pressure Safety Valves

Protecting both plant assets and personnel are the cornerstones of all safety programs. ISC specializes in evaluating pressure relief systems (PRS) from both an equipment protection perspective and an associate safety perspective.

Equipment Protection

Freeing your process engineers to run your plant is the goal in any project. ISC assists in all aspects of the pressure-relief device validation and sizing process from gathering pertinent process safety information (PSI), developing all credible overpressure scenarios, and utilizing pressure relief software to get the most accurate validation/sizing calculations. We follow the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standards 520, 521 and 2000, as well as the customer’s standards and procedures.

Employee and Community Safety

Dispersion modeling is crucial to analyzing the consequences of potential releases from pressure safety valves (PSVs). Our engineers are experienced in modeling both overpressure and spurious failure scenarios for toxicity, thermal radiation, and vapor cloud explosion hazards. Each pressure relief system has unique discharge points and receptors that must be defined in order to protect both your employees as well as the surrounding community.

Process, Mechanical, and Piping

ISC’s mechanical and piping division drives the design of new piping systems or retrofitting existing systems. Our efficient processes and construction first approach reduces risk, minimizes cost impact, and project durations. Existing equipment, piping, and structures are precisely scanned using our 3D precision laser scanner which can be used in 3D modeling software giving the customer a real time, accurate representation of proposed design while minimizing construction modifications.

Mechanical and Piping Capabilities Include

  • 3D Modeling
  • Piping Stress Analysis
  • Process Line Sizing and Routing
    • Material Selection
    • Nozzle Stress Analysis
    • As-Built Drawings
    • De-Bottleneck and Retrofit
    • Equipment Specification, Arrangement, and Layout
    • Spring Can and Expansion Joint Design
    • P&ID Development and Updating
    • Field Verification
    • Reliability
    • Heat Transfer Modeling
    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

ISC’s mechanical and piping teams combine skilled technical personnel with innovative technology and creative ideas to drive a cost efficient, complete project solution resulting in increased production in the future.

Civil and Structural

ISC’s civil and structural group uses organization, experience, and proven methods to provide solutions to outdated industrial issues with the aid of modern technology. Our civil engineering professionals are adept in building industrial development plans by considering all geographical factors, environmental constraints, and customer feedback without sacrificing safety, quality, or cost of the completed construction package.
